OPTIMAL ORAL HEALTH AND OVERALL WELLNESS
At Permalla Dental Care, we take a comprehensive approach to each patient’s oral health and also to their overall wellness. Medical studies show that there is a definite systemic link between the health of one’s mouth and the health of the rest of the body. The mouth often shows early signs and symptoms of other health related issues. At new patient visits we assess in detail the patient’s general health history plus their complete dental history, and we perform a thorough oral health evaluation. We routinely check the overall health of teeth and gums, perform oral cancer exams, take necessary x-rays, and review good oral hygiene practices. Always we inquire about and discuss any patient concerns.
PATIENT EDUCATION AND PREVENTATIVE CARE
We at Permalla Dental Care believe patient education and preventive care are essential to optimal dental health. We instruct, demonstrate, encourage and guide patients in practicing good methods and techniques for proper “at home” dental hygiene, and we discuss in plain terms with our patients options and strategies for needed “in office” care. Early detection and proper diagnosis of problems, along with timely intervention, allows us to provide the most conservative treatments. This saves patients from more extensive, costly procedures.

MINIMALLY INVASIVE DENTAL CARE
At Permalla Dental Care, we are on the leading edge of modern dentistry by practicing minimally invasive dental care, a progressive philosophy and technique used by forward thinking dental professionals. We integrate state-of-the-art technology and the highest quality materials available with advanced clinical techniques and artistic talents to deliver more conservative, less invasive treatment compared to traditional methods.
One of the greatest recent advances in dentistry is the shift toward microdentistry--the practice of early detection, prevention, and intervention of tooth and oral disease, thus preserving healthy tooth structure. This shift in philosophy is moving clinicians away from the practice of “watch-wait-and-treat” dentistry to a significantly more proactive form of “diagnose-and-prevent” approach. Microdentistry enables us to perform smaller fillings, which last considerably longer when compared to larger fillings.
Since the introduction of fluoridation, outwardly detectable decay has been dramatically reduced. Because of the strengthening that fluoride creates in the outer layer of tooth enamel, the pattern of decay has changed. Rather than large areas of a tooth surface succumbing to the attack of plaque acid, decay now appears as small discrete areas, often undetectable to dental explorer, yet visible as color change inside the tooth under high magnification, which when opened has a balloon effect, compromising an extensive amount of tooth structure. Using traditional assessment methods, where a dentist is waiting until a detectable hole is formed, often means the patient will need a much larger restoration, which may eventually need a crown. If the patient is putting off treatment until the tooth hurts, the tooth may need a root canal. At Permalla Dental Care, we use high magnification loupes (higher compared to the industry standard) with extremely bright LED light focussed right to the target area, aiding in accurate and early detection, providing superior view. We also use a revolutionary new laser that detects cavities in the earliest possible stages with great accuracy (>90%). The benefits of early detection include:
